A Solway Dory Mainsail with a Personal Touch 🌹

When it comes to a new sail, there’s no reason why it has to look exactly like everyone else’s.

Recently, we had the pleasure of making a new mainsail for a Solway Dory, and the customer had a few ideas to make his new sail a little more personal.

A custom colour for a distinctive sail

The starting point was a new mainsail, designed and made by GP Sails, but rather than sticking with a standard sailcloth colour, our customer opted for blue cloth.

It’s a simple change, but one that gives the sail a distinctive appearance on the water and makes the boat stand out from the crowd.

But we weren’t finished there!

A giant rose for easy spotting

The customer wanted to add something really unique to the sail — a large rose emblem.

To make this happen, we worked with Ocean Art, who added the impressive rose design to the finished sail.

And there was a very practical reason behind the artwork.

His wife wanted to be able to spot him easily when he was out sailing.

With a giant rose flying from the mainsail, we think it’s fair to say that she shouldn't have too much trouble finding him! 🌹

More than just a replacement sail
